Greetings from the President

Toni A. Barrett
Chapter President

Greetings,

I am honored to serve as President of Alpha Alpha Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc®. Though we are a small chapter located in Sussex County, our impact is mighty, and we are committed to making a meaningful difference.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc®., founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University, in Washington, DC., has grown to nearly 300,000 members worldwide. On January 12, 2020-112 years later-Delaware chartered it first four-letter chapter, Alpha Alpha Mu Omega, established by 19 women committed to serving Sussex County. Today, the chapter has nearly doubled in size, with 31 dedicated members continuing its legacy of service.

Alpha Kappa Alpha’s current theme, Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood, guides our efforts as we implement six initiatives:
1.     Strengthen Our Sisterhood
2.     Empower Our Families
3.     Build Our Economic Wealth
4.     Enhance Our Environment
5.     Advocate For Social Justice
6.     Uplift Our Local Community
Each initiative comprises multiple components aimed at strengthening our community as our members work collaboratively to accomplish these tasks.

Alpha Alpha Mu Omega has led numerous projects in and around Sussex County, including delivering hygiene supplies to the men and women of Home of the Brave, a facility supporting homeless veterans. Our efforts also include planting trees in the community to help our environment, hosting workshops on affordable housing, mental health, and maternal health, and providing weekly distributions of healthy snacks, fruits, and vegetables to a local daycare center.

encourage you to visit our website regularly to stay updated on the many ways Alpha Alpha Mu Omega continues to serve the community.
